Kwasi Bruni

Kwasi Bruni was composed after a trip to Ghana during which I had the privilege of seeing the Saakumu Dance Troupe perform a traditional rhythm/dance style of the Ga people; Fume Fume. This beautiful music inspired many of the rhythmic ideas found here. In order to execute this piece properly an ensemble must understand the poly-meteric nature of these rhythms. Notice how many sections can be felt using the quarter, dotted quarter and half-note pulse simultaneously. Be sure that the drum set player studies the recording as well as the part in order to get the proper feel. The double tenor part can be played on double seconds and the double guitar part can be played on cello or triple guitar. An additional percussion part can be added on shekere then switching to irons at the final jam section. -Patrick
