Eclipse
Eclipse aims to musically capture the surreal and electrifying experience of one of Earth's most breathtaking celestial events. Composed in the 12/8 Afro- Cuban bembé style, the piece relies on a driving engine room to sustain its rhythmic momentum. The drum set features a bell pattern, the fundamental element of the bembé groove, anchoring the ensemble. Suggested engine room accompaniment for conga, bongos, and shekere is provided below. Each voice within the ensemble is equally important. While the verses feature a more static accompaniment, subsequent sections contrast with more activity. The bass is quite melodic during the chorus and the middle voices take over the harmonized melody in the central section. Meanwhile, the upper voices weave a chorale of planing quartal harmonies, adding depth and texture.
